Suggestions

A community suggestion box. Members post an idea with /suggestion submit, the bot puts it in your suggestions channel for everyone to vote on, and staff mark it approved, denied, under consideration or implemented.

Suggestions here are Server-level ideas that your Admins review inside Discord. To report a problem with the bot itself, use Issue Reporting.

Set up

  1. Open /dashboard and go to Suggestions (see the dashboard page).
  2. Set the Suggestion Channel. Until you do, /suggestion submit tells Members that suggestions are not configured.
  3. Save. Choose whether the author is shown, whether the bot opens a discussion thread, and whether Members get a DM when staff decide.

Member commands

Command Description
/suggestion submit <content> Post a suggestion (up to 2000 characters)

When a Member submits:

  • The suggestion appears in the suggestions channel as a New Suggestion embed marked Pending, with the author's name and avatar (or Anonymous if you turned that on).
  • The bot adds a 👍 and a 👎 reaction so Members can vote.
  • If Create Discussion Thread is on (it is by default), the bot opens a thread on the post named Discussion: <start of the suggestion> that archives after 3 days.
  • The Member gets a private confirmation with the suggestion's ID number, which staff use to decide it.

Staff commands

Command Description
/suggestion approve <suggestion_id> [reason] Mark a suggestion approved
/suggestion deny <suggestion_id> [reason] Mark a suggestion denied
/suggestion consider <suggestion_id> [reason] Mark a suggestion as under consideration
/suggestion implemented <suggestion_id> [reason] Mark a suggestion as implemented

Each command rewrites the suggestion post with its new status, the reason, and who decided, records the decision in the Activity Log, and posts it to the Log Channel if you set one. The statuses are shown as 🟡 Pending, ✅ Approved, ❌ Denied, 🔵 Considered and 🟢 Implemented. An anonymous suggestion stays anonymous after a decision, even if you change the Anonymous setting later.

If DM User on Decision is on, the author also gets a direct message with the new status and your reason (nothing happens if their DMs are closed).

Who can decide

The four staff commands need the suggestions permission category (or Manage Server). /suggestion submit is open to every Member. To give your moderators access:

/permissions grant command_group:suggestions role:@Moderator

The Suggestions dashboard page

The Suggestions page has two tabs.

Settings

Setting What it does
Suggestion Channel Where suggestions are posted, with their voting reactions
Log Channel (optional) Where every decision is posted for staff: the new status, the reason, who decided and a link to the suggestion
DM User on Decision Message the author when staff approve or deny their suggestion
Anonymous Suggestions Hide the author from the public post
Create Discussion Thread Open a discussion thread on each new suggestion

Suggestions

A running list of every suggestion, newest first, with a total and a count for each status. Vote totals live on the post itself, as the 👍 and 👎 reactions. Filter by All, Pending, Approved, Denied, Considered or Implemented. Pending suggestions have Approve, Deny and Consider buttons; each asks for an optional reason.

A decision made here does everything the /suggestion commands do: it updates the post in Discord, DMs the author if that is on, posts to the Log Channel and records it in the Activity Log.

Troubleshooting

"Suggestions are not configured"

No Suggestion Channel is set. Add one on the Dashboard's Suggestions page.

"Suggestion channel not found"

The saved channel was deleted, or the bot cannot see it. Pick the channel again.

No discussion thread appears

The bot needs permission to create threads in the suggestions channel. Posting still works without it; the thread is skipped.

A staff command says you lack permission

Grant the suggestions category to the role (see above), or give the Member Manage Server.
